My website was recently hacked and infected with a terrible virus. My webmaster and hosting service eventually got everything cleaned up and back online, but when I typed in the address, I kept getting the same error message. It was so frustrating – they could see the new and improved, cleaned up site, but I couldn’t.
My webmaster realized I had not enabled automatic updates on the back-end of my website because it was just so much easier for me not to have to learn newer and better ways to do things. He also told me to do an advanced clean-up on my browser, erasing cached images, browsing history, etc. I didn’t want to as I loved how convenient it was to have my browser remember things for me, but I had to do the updates and browser clean-up if I wanted to see my site. It was a big decision for me to click on “clear.”
This experience reminded me a lot of my journey with Jesus. He has done a lot to clean me up and get me on the right path, but until I let go of my history, I wasn’t able to see myself as the new creation I was becoming.
We want new life, yet we won’t let go of old familiar habits, patterns, and perceptions. I’ve done a lot of work on myself with the Lord over the years, but I still saw myself as inadequate, not likely, victim of, and not worthy. There was a lot of old data that kept bringing me back to the same old error messages. When I let go of what was easy and familiar, I could finally experience the joy and reward of all the good work God had been doing to reveal the new and improved me!
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
